How does Shawn Sutton Studio ensure the longevity of each piece?

What materials does Shawn Sutton Studio use in their art pieces?

Yes — I offer custom commissions for collectors and spaces that want something built specifically for them. Commission work is always hand-built (no mass production, no shortcuts), and created in my signature style: sculpted relief, layered tone, and finished detail.

To start a commission, send a message through the Contact page with:

  • preferred size (or wall dimensions)

  • your general color direction

  • where it’s going (home, office, tasting room, etc.)

  • any “must haves” (mood, materials, edge style)

From there, I’ll confirm timeline + pricing, and we’ll lock it in with a deposit.

What is the shipping policy for Shawn Sutton Studio’s artworks?

Do you accept returns/exchanges?

I ship artwork within the United States, and every piece is packed like it’s going to war (in a good way). You’ll receive tracking once it ships.

Because my work is textured and dimensional, shipping is typically quoted based on size + destination (especially for larger pieces).

How do you care for the artwork?

Treat it like a piece of art… not a kitchen countertop 😄

Best care:

  • Dust gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or soft brush

  • Avoid water, cleaners, and sprays (texture + moisture = nope)

  • Keep away from direct, harsh sunlight and extreme humidity

  • Use secure hanging hardware appropriate for the piece’s weight

If you ever have a question about where to hang it, just message me — I’ll tell you what’s safe.

Longevity is built into my process. Each artwork is created in layers, allowed to cure properly, and finished with protective coatings so the surface holds up in the real world.

That includes:

  • solid substrate prep and structured surface build

  • layered paint work (not surface-deep color)

  • protective sealing/finishing to guard against wear and environment over time

In short: I don’t rush the build, because rushed work cracks. And we’re not doing that here.

Because each piece is an original and often one-of-one, all sales are typically final. That said — if your artwork arrives damaged, contact me within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the packaging and the piece, and we’ll make it right.

For commissions: deposits are generally non-refundable once production begins, because the piece is being made specifically for your space.

Each piece starts with a hand-built surface — sculpted, layered, and shaped over time. My process blends plaster-like materials and sculptural compounds to create depth and structure, then I paint on top of that surface using veils, washes, and shadowing.

Materials may include:

  • custom sculpting compounds (plaster-like blends)

  • acrylic paints and tonal veils

  • marble dust and texture additives (when appropriate)

  • leather or subtle inlays (on select pieces)

  • protective sealers/finishes for longevity

Every piece is built slowly, finished by hand, and sealed to last.
